Hi there! I have a question for all of you :) Since you all have been sweet enough to visit my blog and those of you with your own blogs who are sooo talented in decorating. Whether it be your beautiful homes or talent in crafting. You all inspire me so much and I just love looking at your homes and decor. As a child, I wanted to be an interior decorator. But after some mistakes in my life and then starting a family at a young age, I never followed through with it. Although, I dont think I would be very good at it, lol. I have a specific style that I love and would have a hard time decorating for men or for those who love sleek, moderns designs, lol. ANYWAY, When I was four, my parents bought a small motel, We lived in a small apartment within the motel so that my parents could man the office 24/7. It was definitely different as well as amazing! Best days of my life actually. Anyway, I used to sit on the couch for hours and go through the Sears and JcPenney catalogs looking at furniture etc. I would pick out things and then think of where I would put them in our little apartment. My love of homes and decor started at a very young age. But the weird thing about me? I became obsessed with small places. When I would play house, my bedroom would not be my house, my closet would, lol. I think that is one of the reasons I love cottage style and such so much. It is warm, cozy and just reminds me of a small comfy space. I wouldn't want a big, cookie cutter house in a new development. That just doesn't appeal to me or inspire me. I can appreciate their beauty but I prefer a smaller, older home with charm and the little details that come with them. I don't like to read magazines or blogs with huge, super expensive homes. I would rather read a blog with a small, easy to obtain home. That is my question to you, what types of homes inspire you? What do you like to see? I would love to know. Thank you so much in advance!
XO, Amy

I sooo love small homes Amy!... none of our homes has ever been big... nor fancy... just not my style... I loved my little farmhouse I posted some years ago... it was small... but I had a big garden and almost an acre to seclude us... I have always thought my style was farmhouse... but not like some of the farmhouse styles I am seeing today... I guess mine is more "cottage" or "cottage farmhouse"... small.. cozy, comfy... but not with industrial things in it like some of the farmhouses I see... Jack and I actually are watching a darling little cottage down the lane from us to see if it goes up for sale... I want it so bad!... the owners may have no plans of selling it, but it is just what we want... I love your little bungalow... and I loved your Bunny Rose cottage... I think cottage is probably the best term to describe what you and I both love... and I read something you posted recently that made me smile so... you said you put the pictures your kids draw for you on your fridge... I LOVE that!... these are the things that make a house a home... not spending beacoup bucks for fancy schmancy things that really don't make a home a home... my home is eclectic... it is full of the things we love... and of course, pets are always welcome too!... love to see where you are going with this... my little sis and I too used to play house in our closet... that we shared!... it was really small... xoxo Julie Marie PS Mailed your little package this am... should be there Thursday!... love you!!!
ReplyDeletePS If you look at the post I did this morning, the last pic is the little house I want!... xoxo Me
ReplyDeleteWell I have a small ranch style house that I try to make look cottage like. I love to see ideas for other little small houses. I enjoy seeing big beautiful houses but I prefer to see homes where I can get ideas for my house. I actually love small homes--they are cozy and inviting.
ReplyDeleteI love a small little cottage in fact that is what I want to get when we make our final decision as to were we want to relocate. For me it needs to be a small cottage by a little lake. I want small even though my family is large.
ReplyDeleteWell Hi Amy !!
ReplyDeleteGosh, it's been a L O N G forever time visiting you !! WOW !! I had lots to catch up on !! Such beautiful changes you have made and are in the middle of doing !! FUN !! Your children are soooo BIG !! Your baby girl is adorable !! Looks just like Momma !! Love it !!
I'm going to try to get back into this bloggy world again sometime, I had written to congradulate Julie Marie, and then found you again !! I was sooo happy for her little piece in Romantic Homes !! Soo exciting for her !! A sweetie she is !!
Everything has just changed sooo much !! I STILL LOVE EVERYTHING shabby chic, PINK, and rosey !! It's always been such a part of my heart !! It made me SAD to see everyone going sooo many different directions, so, I just continue to do what speaks to my heart, and brings me peacefulness, happiness, and joy !! I'm always playing and changing things up, but, NOT my favorite things !!
I have boys in my home, a lazy boy in our family room, and everything girly around !! They really don't mind at all !! Our garage is a gym, and ALL that boy stuff ... so, we all have our places !! I just have MOST of it !!hahaha ....
Okay, so, now for your question, SMALL, SWEET, OLD, COTTAGEY home rules !! Such sweet, quaint, wonderful bones in them !! Love to think of all the memories and stories an old small home could share, especially the kitchens. Warms my heart to even think of them !! Someday SOON, we hopefully will be getting one, in a wonderful historic towne close to our "now" home !! I get so excited to even think of it !! Home is where your heart is truly, and it's where you share the love, and joys of family on a daily basis !! Our home is only 1800 sq. feet, and, I LOVE our home, and, it's where the kids always have their friends come to. Everyone feels comfy and cozy here !! Now, that speaks volumes to me personally !! And, I LOVE when they say it smells soooo good !! Always making or baking something yummy, and if not, my candles trick them !! There is plenty of pillows and blankets for everyone to come lay around the tvs, and everyones always welcome here !!
Hahaha ... didn't mean to write a book, but, just haven't shared with you in sooo long !! I will pop in again now that I've found you !! Love you sweet girl, and keep being the Momma you are, and love those babies, they grow so fast, it makes my heart SAD !!
Have a happy rest of your week, and thanks for sharing from your heart always ~~~~
Big hugs ~Tanza~ xo
Hi again sweetie... I'm so happy Tanza stopped in to see you too!... we had a long chat via email the other day, she is a sweetie too... after reading your cute post yesterday, I posted about cottages and did a link to your blog this morning... hope you don't mind!... and I am looking forward to more from you about cottages!!!... xoxo Julie
ReplyDeleteI used to live in a small Victorian terrace, all high ceilings and wrought iron fireplaces. That appeals to me. Also when young a detached Victorian house, so I guess thats my ultimate style. Our house now is a small modernised 1930's house, nice but not a dream house.
ReplyDeleteWe were by the seaside recently, Lytham, Lancs, and there were lovely terraced cottages in town, perfect.
Hi Amy, your new blog direction is gorgeous. I just love it and your post about cottages. I love quaint cottages too and grew up in one and lived in many smaller homes. While my home now is a little bigger then our last, it still is the smallest in our area and has a cottage feel with the rock chimney and 1 1/2 story in size. No big rooms that are open to all the others, but a closed concept which is cozy and old fashion no matter what the size. The warm welcome it gives, the vintage treasures passed down from loved ones, the aroma of something wonderful on the stove and the love of those that live inside. For me, this makes my sweet cottage home with a big heart.
ReplyDeleteWishing you beautiful days in your cottage home and lots of love to keep your heart full.
Love to you always sweet friend, Celestina Marie
Happy Birthday today sweetie!!!... I hope ALL your birthday wishes come true!... enjoy your day with your beautiful family... love you!... xoxo Julie Marie
